CPO Jason Finan 34, of Anaheim, California died October 20, 2016 in northern Iraq. He was caught in a firefight near the forward line of troops just moments before he was killed by an improvised explosive device This was near the town of Bashiq while operating with Kurdish peshmerga forces.

CPO Finan was attached to elite SEAL Team 5 that was advising the Iraqi Counterterrorism Service. He was directing American and Iraqi forces away from a roadside bomb he spotted when it exploded.

CPO Finan enlisted in the Navy in August 2003. After completing basic training, he served aboard the USS Ronald Reagan. On Sept. 1, 2007, Finan completed his training and became an EOD technician and was assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 3 in San Diego, California. He was deployed multiple times to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Finan later integrated and deployed with SEAL Team 5 as an EOD supervisor.

CPO Finan is survived by his wife Chariss and their son Christopher.
